AN OLD GRAIN SILO + A TINY HOME DESIGN = A PERFECT FIRST HOME FOR THE NEWLYWEDS
Converting old structures into brand new homes is common nowadays. Even vehicles like buses and train cabooses are no exception from this trend. It’s simply an exciting idea to just see what kind of home you can build out of anything. For this newlywed couple, they decided to make a lovely little home out of an old grain silo.
They used the roundness of the silo to their advantage. This shape actually serves both a psychological and practical purpose. Many travelers noticed when they would stay in a round room they would feel safer. They feel well-rested after sleeping in a round space. As for the structural benefits of a round-shaped home, it simply has more integrity. The forces of nature like wind and water can easily pass by curves as opposed to flat surfaces and corners. Round homes are also known to be more energy efficient.
Going back to the couple, their tiny silo home has given them a more personal space. The space is actually pretty open, but the loft bedroom is located in a higher and more private section of the silo. Being a repurposed tiny home, this grain silo home has given the newlywed couple a truly special first home.
I think there’s an intimacy that’s imposed on people when they’re in one space. You can’t find that separation. It makes you confront issues more, and it really brings you together.
