Alma-nac’s Remarkable Craft and Attention to Detail
Located within Hampshire’s South Downs National Park, extensive window glazing lined the façade of the house, allowing ample daylight penetration as well as marvelous views of the gardens. The gardens can be accessed directly from the living and dining area. A porch overhangs as if reaching out to the gardens.
The house takes after the form of the old bungalow with a dual pitch roof but with modern clean edges and amazing interior spaces. The 240sq.m living space fits 5 bedrooms and sleeps up to 10 at full occupancy. When briefed that the 5 bedroom home was to be used for single occupancy most of the time, architect Alma-nac decided to make use of sliding partitions that can separate off the guest bedrooms and transform the house into a 1 bedroom with studio and study, perceptually reducing the size of the house. The bedrooms are deliberately located at the more private southern end of the house and its roof above deliberately lowered to create a more intimate scale.
