Too Many Curves to Count….
The exterior curves of this remote retreat, built by Kettle River Timberworks Ltd., stand amidst the trees and overlooking the ocean in Sidney Island, British Columbia, Canada. It has a unique timber ceiling and extraordinary wood furnishings that unify the design of the house. Kudos to the hard work and dedication that created this elegant and fashionable lodge – it’s gorgisimo!
By far the most unique and challenging project we have done to date. A 50ft fully opening ‘accordion’ door opens the living room completely to the ocean. The tight tolerances required for the door and the large spans created some design and engineering challenges for Kettle River. The ultimate solution was an 8×14 curved laminated beam reinforced with a curved steel beam.
