FULL METAL CABIN

A Tiny Home With A Unique Birth Story

The Fleet House in South Pasadena, California is known to be the only house in the world to be pre-fabricated in an aircraft factory which gives it that metal finish as opposed to the traditional wooden or brick houses. The house is mostly made of materials one would find on a plane: lightweight metal with a core honeycombed structure.

The interior of the house shows a more familiar sight when it comes to modern homes. Wide windows allow for a healthy helping of natural light; they also allow for picture-perfect views of the lush surroundings. The Fleet House generally gives off an industrial feel from its exterior but it also gives off a nice cozy feel from its interior which is a nice balance of the two.

Since uncovering this mid-century marvel—built by renowned industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss and architect Edward Larrabee Barnes—Sergio’s childhood friend Chuck Jones has resided here. Chuck, of local Pasadena mainstay Jones Coffee Roasters, has filled the space with Guatemalan treasures and given it his own mid-century eclectic flair.
