Simple Cabins are Taking Over
Have you ever wondered what happens when architects take their skills and time to make a cabin for themselves? It has to have that wow-factor, right? Functionality and design must get on another level, and it should look better than most cabins out there. Well, prejudgement aside, now you get to see and judge for yourself from a real-life example.
This little cabin was built out of an old fisherman’s cottage. Since the old cottage was in bad shape, the two architects had to put in quite a lot of work to make it a lovable space. The walls had to be fixed, both inside and outside. And then, new flooring came in. Since it still felt like a cramped space, they decided to punch out the low ceiling and expose the beautiful wood roof.
Not wanting to risk losing this newly found open space, they decided not to add any rooms. Instead, they found a way to fit it all into one big space, only divided by a single dining table. To top it off, they added a ladder that leads to their bed-loft.
For such a small project, the house is packed with subtle details, from the wood panel that swings open to reveal a narrow window, to articulated joints that make an ordinary section of drywall pop, to gutters that extend a few feet beyond the roof like petals.
