Simple, Rustic, and Gorgeous

Made out of 3 shipping containers, this 800 sq.ft house is private residence for the McConkeys in Southern California, one of the first shopping container homes in the San Diego County.

The McConkeys dreamed about building a container house… The initial inspiration behind their dream was a photo in some literature for a ceramic paint being used on container homes in Europe.

In collaborative effort with arthitect Chriss Bittner of OBR Architecture, this compact dwelling is not just beautifully crafted, but also extremely eco-friendly, and well protected against wildfires. Adopting an open plan, the kitchen can be opened fully with retractable garage doors, allowing Californian sun and air to flow in and through.

The flooring, doors, and bathroom vanity were sourced from the local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Special flame retardant materials were used for the windows and roof.
