Meet Skýli, The Unique Mountain Shelter

Trekking Cabins That Redefine the Nordic Landscape

The Skýli Trekking Cabin is Utopia Arkitekter’s prefab concept. Set along the popular hiking trails of Iceland, the outer shell is built from steel, and it is engineered to survive the harshest of elements. Its interiors has fold-out beds that can accommodate up to 15 people, and is stocked with water, food rations, and emergency supplies.
With it’s 4 pointed pyramidal shapes piercing the sky, these bright blue cabins stand out against the stark Icelandic landscape. Skýli actually means shelter in Icelandic, and a shelter for hikers indeed it is.

Beneath each peak, large triangular windows take advantage of the surrounding scenery. Its prefabricated design allows for materials to be easily transported by helicopter. Once they’re delivered, the assembly can be completed in as little as a couple days.
