Site Sensitive Design and Built with Locally Sourced Materials
Up north of Whistler Village is where this tranquil private A-frame retreat is located. Designed for lovers of snowboarding, the adorable cabin faces the mountains across the valley; the bedroom, bunkroom and guestroom on the upper floor offers spectacular views and are connected to a private terrace banked into a rock bluff. is also has a gear drying room, and an equipment store room on the lower floor. The 178 sq.m cabin matches the scale of early structures in this area, and is made of locally harvested materials.
The structure consists of an internally exposed frame of locally sourced douglas fir with solid strip structural decking which sits on the concrete base anchored into the bedrock. The exterior is clad in red cedar shakes which will weather to the tone of the surrounding rock; the interior cabinetry was site built with plywood and the counters were fabricated from marble from the Hisnet Inlet quarry.
