When You Look Closer…..

These seemingly simple cubes are actually modern cabins dubbed “Cabanas no Rio,” designed by Architect Aires Mateus.  Built with simplicity and grace, the perfect pair of cottages are not only elegant in their rustic minimalism, but also an example of how well-thought-out architecture can actually facilitate emotional calmness and peace of mind.  Don’t believe me?  Then watch the video below on page 2, and I guarantee you’ll feel better afterwards!

Named Cabanas no Rio, which translates as cabins on the river, the two rustic structures offer a rural retreat for a pair of inhabitants. One hut contains a living area, with a simple counter that can be used for preparing food, while the other accommodates a bedroom with a small toilet and sheltered outdoor shower. The edge of the roof sits flush with the walls, plus the wood is expected to change color as it is exposed to the weather. With a combined area of just 26 square meters, the cabins were both built off-site and transported to the site on the back of a lorry.
