An Old Viking Tradition
The green roof, otherwise called turf roof, has been a longstanding tradition for the Scandinavians that can be traced back to the time of the Vikings. They not only look beautiful and picturesque, they also provide stability, insulation, increased air quality and reduced levels of pH from acid rain runoff. They also help the inhabitants with improving their quality of life through the absorption of rainwater, reducing winter heating costs and summer air-conditioning costs and increased insulation. And the neat thing about it is that since there is no control over nature, no green roof is the same…. each one is entirely unique!
