LET’S THINK OUTSIDE THE PLOT OF LAND FOR A SECOND
Though it may be tempting to start plotting your future home by a river or lake, some forget a spot over the water itself can be a viable area for a lovely little house. So why go around looking for a lot by a river if you can build your house on the river itself? If you love being close to water and being at home in the same time, then here are a couple of tips to help give you some ideas to help you maximize the benefits of a floating home.
Since an entire side (if not the whole house) will be facing (or will be surrounded by) water, this will give your home a fantastic view of the body of water you’ll be on. Based on the featured home we have here, which is a floating villa located near the city of Haarlem in the Netherlands, we can see the designer took advantage of the beautiful riverside scenery by giving a generous number of windows to one of the home’s sides. Not only will it provide such wonderful views, these windows will also allow for a healthy helping of natural light to flood the interior.
Another design option you can consider for your floating home is an open deck on the waterside, or all around the house if applicable. This will give you a place to sit back, relax, and take in the sun; this can also provide a comfortable spot where you can fish, if fishing is allowed in whichever location you have chosen, of course.
Wooden cladding framed by aluminum gives this home a unique, stand-out look to it while also drawing its large windows into contrast. Both the upstairs and downstairs portions of this floating villa boast ample natural light and a clear view out over the Spaarne River.
