WHEN IT COMES TO OFF-THE-GRID HOMES, THE RULE IS ‘LESS IS MORE’

THE IMPORTANCE OF MINIMALISM…

Designing an off-the-grid home can prove quite challenging due to the specific criteria the said home will have to meet. Such as its ability to sustain itself when in a location where it will be difficult for an owner to rely on conventional amenities such as potable water and power supply. Even the home’s footprint on the site where it will be set up will have to be considered, not just for environmental reasons but also for the convenience of construction such as the presence of a concrete foundation which may require heavy equipment and of course more expenses.

This chalet in Switzerland is a great example of the use of a minimalistic design while still maintaining an impressive visual aesthetic. The basics are all there underneath the simple design such as multiple small rooms with each able to provide an ideal space for various activities and uses. Going big may not always be the answer when it comes to designing a home.

Completely crafted from wood, it is only the roof of the structure that uses metal with top-notch insulation and an energy-independent design making it a delight to live. Green, minimal and woodsy, this is indeed the ideal retreat with loads of fun!
