A HIDDEN SANCTUARY

THIS HOME IS A COZY SHELTER AFTER A LONG DAY’S WORK
If you look closely you just might make it out. Camouflaged amongst the lush foliage is Thoreau’s Cabin; a haven for volunteers who maintain Noorderpark in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Its façade blends with the surrounding environment, giving it a sense of oneness with nature. The cabin’s entrance consists of two large sliding doors that open up a section of one of the cabin’s corners.
Inside is a contrast of colors to the outside. The warm-colored wooden interior and spacious living space allow for a cozy stay. Wide windows allow for picturesque views of the surroundings from within the comforts of the cabin. In Thoreau’s Cabin, volunteers can feel right at home as they relax.
With neither running water nor electricity, local firewood is used to fuel the kitchen and fireplace. This sculptural hearth forms the heart of the cabin, which includes a storage room, washroom, and eating space.
