A Rustic North Carolina Retreat

Lavish, and Filled with Intricate Details
A collaborative effort of architect James Carter and designer Jane Hawkins brings about this lavish rustic house in Cashiers, North Carolina. Much like a well thought-out collage, the different styles incorporated in each room come together to form a cohesive and intricate piece of architecture.
The exterior of the home is dominated by wood work and stone. The strong earth tones contrast and compliment the greenery surrounding the house. Stone wall chimneys are incorporated in the design to give the place a more aged appearance.
The interiors are nothing short of lavish and luxurious. Timber, stone, designer and custom built furniture, antiques and artworks adorn the lovely mountain retreat. Right from the entryway, you could already see how the design process for the house was put together over time, as the architect and designer thought needed. In the end you can see how each detail adds up into the overall atmosphere of the house. The interiors feature a great room, banquette, kitchen, and three bedrooms.
Each room was design to feel as if the materials and furniture are not actually brand new. The reclaimed timber, antique lamps, 19th century patchwork quilts, reproduction furniture, and majolica pieces all lend a sense of age and history, making the house feel as if it had been lived in for a substantial amount of time. This collaborative work by Carter and Hawkins really brought out a rustic masterpiece. Filled with well thought-out and intricate details, this house magically transports you to another era once you set your foot in the door.
