FROM ABANDONED HOUSE TO DREAM ‘MOUNTAIN MODERN’ HOME

As They Say… If You Want A Job Done Right, Then Do It Yourself

A married couple managed to transform an old, abandoned house of horrors into their very own dream home in Stevenson, Washington. They wanted a home that was away from the city where they can get the rest and relaxation they needed, it was this idea coupled with the fact that the home has its own 28-acres of land that it inspired how they were going to redesign their new retreat home, quoting one of them saying “I wanted it to feel like the most comfortable tent I’d ever seen.”

The style they went with for their cabin is rustic contemporary or mountain modern; so as long as it complemented the beams and cedar ceilings, as they preferred. The interior is mostly lit by natural light due to the generous number of windows and glass doors they added; especially in the top floor where they have a full panoramic view of the surrounding scenery allowing them to immerse in the natural landscape while still in the comfort of their own home.

They shaped this home into a place they found themselves visiting as often as they can, which really comes to show how great a home can be when you know what you want and you yourself want to make it turn out just the way you want it to be.

Best Advice: Make lists, draw drawings, play fast and loose with your design. You will be surprised what elements go together that you might think wouldn’t.
