The Birdhouse in the Middle of the Forest

A Cube Seated on its End
Designed by Matali Crasset, the Birdhouse cottage is an unorthodox looking cabin shaped like a cube seated on its tip. Surrounded by a lush green forest in Lorraine, France, this rustic two-story cabin resembles an actual birdhouse with a peaked roof and a plank entry. Pretty cute, huh? The structure is made from lightweight wood seated on steel poles that minimizes any footprint disturbance to the forest floor. The beautiful exterior of the cabin is it’s main focus, with an elevated terrace big enough for gathering guests, cooking, dining, or relaxing – it even has a porch swing. The cabin’s interior is a lot more simple and minimalist. Divided into two rooms, the lower level serves as a seating room and storage space, while the upper level is a lofted sleeping quarters. The Birdhouse is the first in a series of four cabins designed by Crasset, with the others named The Deer, The Chrysalis, and The Mushroom, each one providing a unique experience you’ll surely remember.
