INNOVATIVE BLEND OF MINIMALIST AND RUSTIC STYLES DEFINES THIS CONTEMPORARY CABIN

It’s also inspired by artists like Jan Imberi

In building this retreat house for a Dallas-based couple, an architecture firm got inspiration from traditional log cabins and elevated the idea into a minimalist yet cozy haven. The cabin, located in Beaver Bend, Oklahoma, aims to emphasize the surrounding nature by blending with it. The result is a long narrow white structure with a gabled roof as a tribute to traditional cabins.

The inside of the house is as minimalist as it can get with plain white walls and furnishings. Light plywood was used for accents and as a tribute to the classic design. High ceilings and natural light from the large windows and skylight give a spacious and bright atmosphere to the place. The cabin has one great room with all amenities such as a kitchen and dining room, and two bedrooms.

The cabin provides a minimalist respite with nature with the same rustic feeling of a cabin in the woods.

“‘We love doing things where we play off of some form or shape that people recognize and something that’s regional,’ Bang says. ‘When someone says a cabin, I think 99% of people would draw a gable roof. So we made the skin very modern, but the shape harkens back to the first thing people think about when they think about a cabin.’”
