INSIDE THE WOODLAND RETREAT: A CANADIAN CABIN CULTURE MASTERPIECE

Herschel Supply Co.’s Co-founder Blends Traditional Aesthetics with Nostalgic Modern Art

For an owner of a retro travel goods company, Lyndon Cormack’s Canadian home embodies what could only be described as an amalgamation of tradition and modernism. With the intention of retaining its mountain cabin aesthetic, the house features wooden log exteriors and interiors with high ceilings and large windows giving views of the surrounding greenery. Making use of wood designs such as cedar shingles instead of smooth logs puts a contemporary aspect to otherwise classic rustic interiors.

Modern aesthetics are also highlighted through the use of furnishings from well-known brands and designers such as Moroso, Vitra, Cassina, and Tacchini. This puts a playful and innovative contrast to the otherwise traditional design. The house also contains modern art such as Andy Warhol’s Space Fruit Watermelon.

‘In contrast to the original home, the architectural intervention is formally minimal and modern while the materials complement the organic, natural tones.’
