TURNING HOLLOW RUINED HOMES INTO LIVABLE SPACES
The Prefab Plugin House project aims to build homes into the hollow spaces of ruined homes. The technique consists of prefabricated panels inserted into the spaces to build up the house. This presents a more cost-efficient solution. Rather than risking the structural integrity of the existing structures, the project creates livable and cost-efficient homes within the ruins.
This project makes it so that no amount of space in a neighborhood is wasted. Instead of leaving lots of ruined houses alone and unused, plugin houses can be built within their spaces.
“Industrial manufacturing allows the use of high-quality materials that drastically increase energy efficiency and economies of scale ensure the Plugin House remains inexpensive,” the architects explained. “Although the Plugin Panels are mass produced, each Plugin House is customized to fit its particular site.
