RUSTIC ON THE OUTSIDE, MODERN ON THE INSIDE

Sustainable Mountain Home That You Will Surely Envy

Casa Vi is built on a mountainous area in Italy with an elevation of almost 3,300 feet, making it a cozy mountain home. Its owners had wanted to convert a rundown brick and stone structure and this vision was made possible by EV + A Lab Atelier d’architettura.

The results are indeed stunning. EV + A Lab had some difficulties in the design because of the usual challenges in building mountain homes. The lack of natural light was resolved by raising the northern wall of the cabin, and leaving openings to let natural light in.

The interior’s minimal white and wood theme is a stark contrast from the rustic, ancient-looking exterior of the stone construction. The piece de resistance is the bedroom with an incredible floor to ceiling view of the Italian Alps in the distance! Take a look!

When remodeling the structure, the architects decided to adopt a modern reinterpretation of old construction techniques and materials. This approach allowed them to incorporate elements from the original ruin into the new cabin. In addition, this also introduced an interesting contrast of styles. The cabin can be placed somewhere between rural and urban, between rustic and modern.
