Take a Step Back In Time

Living the Simple Life

Fossickers Hut, as it’s called, is located at Canvastown, New Zealand. Situated near a small, historic, gold-mining town, the hut was designed by two local artists, Craig and Jodie. The two also personally serve as hosts for visitors at the site. It is a vacation rental cabin, available for $190 a night. It showcases the designer’s resourcefulness by using indigenous materials and pre-loved items as furniture and structural members. The tree branches used for the porch roof columns and the loft’s balcony rail give the place a rustic and homey feel. This little cabin can accommodate up to four people. It sits atop a hill giving you a view of the beautiful Wakamarina River. Take a look at these photos and then tell us what you think on our Facebook Page!

Beautiful handcrafted features fill the little space, right down to the ceramic light shades and hand-made-by-Jodie individual plates and bowls in the camp kitchen. An old coal range in the lean-to kitchen, and outdoor, fire-heated bath, adds to the historic vibe. Inside the hut, a pot belly stove and a comfortable queen-size bed create a cosy, inviting space. A roof loft, accessed by ladder, is an adventurous sleeping spot for the kids.
