THE MIRAGE IN THE WOODS

ENJOY THE BEAUTY OF NATURE ON A NEW LEVEL OF PRIVACY
Here’s a group of hotel rooms designed to take advantage of the beautiful scenery of Mother Nature. The Guest House 3.0 by YOD Design Lab was made to naturally blend into its wooded surroundings. They did this by making use of timber as the house’s main material. But that’s not all.
The floor-to-ceiling reflective windows are the icing on the cake. From inside the rooms, you have a full 360-degree view of the natural scenery. From the outside, the windows mirror the surrounding landscape which makes the house almost completely hidden in plain view. The combination of timber and reflective windows make the Guest House 3.0 seemingly disappear from sight.
The primary structure of the guest house is constructed from a lightweight metal frame. Rather than the typical solid base, the building sits on a so-called ‘screw base’. This technology allows the structure to be set among the pines without damaging any trees or their root system.
The volume also stands one meter above the ground, which helps towards waterproofing the cabin by preventing water ingress. The ‘screw base’ elements and elevation of the ground floor also makes the guest house appear as if it too is growing in the forest, like the tree trunks that surround it.
